Institutional discipline starts with experienced practitioners.

Steve Ogrin has spent more than two decades working across investment management, investment banking, and alternative investment due diligence, giving him a perspective that spans both how investments are structured and how they ultimately fit within an advisor’s portfolio.

He began his career at Goldman Sachs and T. Rowe Price, working on investment selection and trading for corporate clients, pension funds, and retirement plans. He later moved into investment banking, where his work included M&A, transaction modeling, company valuation, and restructuring analysis.

Steve joined Buttonwood Due Diligence Services in 2009 and later co-acquired the firm. Since then, he has reviewed thousands of alternative investment programs across sponsors, structures, and market cycles, working with RIAs, broker-dealers, family offices, and insurance carriers.

Those years also exposed a broader challenge: advisors increasingly had access to alternative investments, but often lacked the operational infrastructure, governance, and program-level support needed to manage them effectively. Steve co-founded altMAPS to help close that gap and give independent RIAs a more disciplined framework for building, implementing, and overseeing their alternatives programs.

Steve holds a finance degree from Colorado State University and an MBA in finance, economics, and entrepreneurship from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Steve lives in Colorado with his wife and their six children. He plays and coaches hockey, occasionally hacks his way around a golf course, and is relentlessly mechanical, from rebuilding vehicles to tackling his own construction projects. He also holds U.S. utility patents on two consumer products he developed.

Rizwan Ibrahim brings more than three decades of experience spanning strategic management consulting and investment advisory, with a particular focus on translating investment discipline into practical frameworks for independent RIAs.

His work with alternative investments inside an advisory practice is complemented by active industry involvement with ADISA, IPA, and the Real Assets Adviser Editorial Advisory Board, as well as published work examining RIA independence and governance. Together, those experiences have shaped his perspective on what independent firms need to build alternatives programs that are not only institutionally sound, but practical to implement and maintain.

At altMAPS, Rizwan focuses on making the operating framework work in the real world, connecting governance, portfolio construction, and ongoing oversight with the client needs, operational constraints, and growth priorities of independent advisory practices.

Rizwan is a CFA charterholder, CAIA charterholder, CFP® certificant, and holds the CIPM designation from the CFA Institute.

Rizwan holds a BS in Engineering from Syracuse University and graduate degrees in policy and finance from MIT and Johns Hopkins University.

Outside of work, Rizwan is an avid traveler, swimmer, and pickleball player
